Chicago gala to raise support for young sickle cell patients

CHICAGO (WLS) -- For children born with sickle cell disease, access to specialized care can make all the difference.

The inherited blood disorder can cause severe pain, infections, and organ damage, and it disproportionately affects Black communities.

Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital is committed to advancing care for pediatric diseases, including sickle cell.

On August 28, just ahead of Sickle Cell Awareness Month, Saint Jude will host its annual gala to raise awareness and support for its mission.
