ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) -- Whooping cough is spreading through several suburban schools.

The Cook County Health Department reports there are five confirmed cases at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, four confirmed cases at Prospect High in Mount Prospect and three cases at Highcrest Middle School in Wilmette.

Health department officials said this isn't all that unusual in the winter months, but are encouraging parents and students to get up to date on their vaccinations.
