Man hit, robbed waiting for train in Gary
A man was tackled, hit in the head and robbed early Monday morning while waiting for a train in Gary.

GARY, Ind. (WLS) -- A man was tackled, hit in the head and robbed early Monday morning while waiting for a train in Gary.

The 50-year-old man was waiting for a South Shore train to Chicago at the Gary-Chicago Airport Station when the robber approached him and asked for directions at 4:19 a.m., according to Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District Police.

The robber then took out a gun and chased the victim into a nearby yard, where the victim was struck in the head with the gun. The victim had his black Harley-Davidson wallet and a black and orange Michael Jordan backpack stolen.

The victim was treated for his injuries at Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus.

Police said the robber is a 19-20-year-old man with a black semi-automatic handgun and was wearing blue jeans and a gray or white hoodie.
