Summer officially starts tomorrow, which means people are hitting the beach.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Summer officially starts Monday, but it certainly felt like summer on Sunday, which meant many people were at the beach trying to stay cool.

From the North Side to the South Side folks were out looking for ways to beat the heat.

Kids splashed around at the Garfield Park pool, one of 49 park district pools open for the summer.

Across town at North Avenue Beach, folks were there early to stake out a prime spot of real estate. But people needed to check any booze at the door. Chicago police officers are enforcing a strict no alcohol policy.

In its 27th year, Real Men Cook is back and served up food to celebrate and uplift families for Father's Day. Among those manning the grill was ABC7's Jim Rose.

"It highlights fathers. Fathers serving the community, passing down traditions," Julian Valentine, from Real Men Cook, said.

In its third and final day, the Taste of Randolph, with its music and eats was another popular spot for celebrating dads.

Because of the heat it's important to stat hydrated if you're going to be spending extended amount of time outdoors.
