2 shot on La Porte County trail

Two people were shot along a trail in La Porte County Monday, police say.

The La Porte County Sheriff's Office was called around 7:21 p.m. with a report of a shooting near 5055 North Pawnee Trail.

When deputies arrived, they said they found evidence of a shooting but no victims.

A short while later, the sheriff's office was notified by IU Health La Porte Hospital and Saint Anthony Memorial in Michigan City that two patients had just arrived at their facilities with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Both victims are male, police said, but released no ages.

One victim has since been treated and released for a superficial wound to the hand while the other was transferred to the trauma center at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Police say they have identified several suspects.
