Officer shoots man after suspect tries to hit police with car

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago police officer fired at a drug suspect who allegedly tried to run officers over, police said.

As the officers tried to arrest the suspect in the 2300-block of West Lake Street around 10:15 p.m. Saturday, police say the man allegedly drove into the officers' car and knocked one officer to the ground.

Police say the man then sped toward the injured officer, prompting another officer to open fire.

The suspect is now hospitalized in critical condition. The injured officer is in stable condition.
