Martin Hurtado fatally shot in his backyard in Hammond

HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) -- A 45-year-old man was fatally shot while working on a vehicle in his backyard in Hammond, Indiana.

Martin Hurtado, of the 800-block of State Street, was shot once in the shoulder around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday. He was taken to St. Margaret's Hospital, where he died a short time later.

The Lake County, Ind. coroner's office ruled Hurtado's death a homicide.
