TINLEY PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- A south suburban grocery store faces a lawsuit from a woman who says her son became sick from a salmonella outbreak linked to the store.

According to the complaint, the 11-year-old boy ate food from the deli at the Jewel at 171st and Harlem in Tinley Park earlier this month.

Afterward he got so ill he had to go to the emergency room, where testing confirmed the salmonella infection.

The Jewel deli counter was shut down for an inspection and re-opened later with new food handlers and new products. Health officials are still investigating the outbreak, which may have sickened as many as 15 people.

Jewel officials are not yet commenting on the lawsuit.
