CHICAGO (WLS) -- The calls to stop the violence stretch from a Chicago street corner to the nation's capital.

On the North Side, Ald. Joe Moore joined a group called "Rogers Park Positive Loitering," who meet several times each month to "loiter" on the street, hoping their presence will deter crime. This past weekend, Ald. Moore witnessed a deadly shooting.

Chicago police held a roll call in Lincoln Park. There has been a string of robberies in the area. Ald. Michele Smith says the roll call demonstrates that the neighborhood won't tolerate crime.

Congressmen Bobby Rush and Danny Davis spoke about violence on the House floor. Rush described the hopelessness some people feel. He and Rush both spoke about the loss of jobs in their districts.
