CHICAGO (WLS) -- Johnson Publishing Company announced Monday that it has launched a new JET Magazine app for all mobile and tablet devices.

The app replaces the printed edition of the magazine, whose final newsstand issue was released at the beginning of June. There is a free introductory offer of 30 days for all subscribers.

"I am excited to carry the torch of the iconic JET brand into the digital realm," said Kyra Kyles, editorial director of both the app and JETmag.com. "I am confident that we can keep the legacy of the magazine for generations."

JET magazine served as a weekly news digest for African Americans beginning in 1951, and is often noted for its role in chronicling the early days of the Civil Rights movement. The publication is now in an all-digital format, and coverage includes current events, entertainment news, healthy living guidelines and fashion and beauty tips. Instructions for downloading the new app can be found at JETMag.com and Ebony.com.
