CHICAGO (WLS) -- It may be winter in Chicago, but it doesn't feel like it.

"There's like no snow, and last year we got snow and we got to go sledding," said Mallory Beaver.

Many enjoyed holiday activities throughout the city Friday - with some warmer weather than expected.

Los Angeles resident Erin Jourdan and Anthony Berrios say it's perfect.

"The weather today reminds me a little more of California than Chicago," Jourdan said.

The Morton Arboretum is expecting more visitors Friday for the Illumination Show as the area experienced a warmer than usual holiday.

"We've had about a 40 percent increase from this year to last for this day, just because the weather has been so much better," said Patti MacMillan of the Morton Arboretum.

This time last year, the temperature hovered just above freezing. But this afternoon, Michigan Avenue was packed with after-Christmas shoppers who took in the mild weather.

But not everyone is happy.

"I would prefer snow for winter," said Franklyn Sims. "It just puts you in that mood."

But with temperatures that are pushing toward a 55-degree record set in 1971, those like birthday girl Nicole Zamudio, who's heading to this evening's Zoo Lights at Lincoln park zoo, say it couldn't be better.

"Usually my birthday is always like snowed out and I can't do anything, but it's beautiful weather for December," Zamudio said.

Lincoln Park Zoo is expected about 30,000 people for its Zoo Lights show Friday night.
