Car crashes into sinkhole in Uptown, driver briefly trapped: 'I was tilted and feet off the ground'

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A car fell into a large sinkhole Thursday on the city's North Side.

The driver became briefly trapped inside her car. She spoke to ABC7 about the ordeal.

The crash happened in the 1300 block of West Winnemac Avenue, in the Uptown neighborhood.

A witness provided photos of the car crashed into the sinkhole to ABC7. The vehicle's passenger-side front tire can be seen in the sinkhole, and the back of the SUV was lifted off of the ground.

The driver, Beth Sosler, said she had just pulled out of a parking spot when something went wrong.

"I had no idea what happened," Sosler said. "I thought, 'there was nothing there, what did I do?' And then I went to open my door and saw that I was... tilted and feet off the ground."

Sosler said her neighbors helped her get out of her car. She was not hurt.

Her car was towed. It's not yet clear what kind of damage the car has.

No further information from Chicago authorities about the sinkhole was immediately available.
