Neighbor said man not intended target after home, car riddled with bullets
CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 77-year-old man was killed in a shooting on the Far South Side Tuesday morning, Chicago police said.
The shooting took place at about 3:12 a.m. in the 10900-block of South Edbrooke Avenue in the city's West Roseland neighborhood.
Officers were on patrol when they heard gunshots, and were then dispatched to a report of a person shot, police said.
Officers found a car had been shot up and a 77-year old man with wounds to his head and neck inside his home, police said. The man died despite efforts to get him to the hospital.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Alfred Shelton.
Some residents say investigators began canvassing the neighborhood looking for clues and any surveillance video.

"They heard like 20-something shots, and, when I asked them what it was, they said was someone with the car shot right here on 190th and Edbrooke," resident Carmen Hollister said. "The building, the man, the older gentleman, it was a homicide, they say, because he was asleep."
A neighborhood security camera captured a barrage of gunshots, after residents say gunmen opened fire on Shelton's home.
Some, like Hollister, were left shocked but not surprised.
"We always hear shots around here on a normal basis," Hollister said.
But, he said, he didn't believe Shelton was the intended target.
People who've seen the security camera footage say it shows a car stopping at the corner before the gunshots.
A man possibly related to the victim was inside the home Tuesday morning, but he did not share any information with reporters.
No one is in custody, and Area Two detectives are investigating.
