Cook County Prosecutors said Robert Romo shot and killed his brother, 63-year-old Richard Romo and 64-year-old Rita Chavez Sunday night.

According to a family member, Rita was Richard's girlfriend.

A smoke shop employee who works in the same building where the attacks happened, said the couple had been living there for some time.

"They were just our regular customers. They would always come in," shopkeeper Natalie Guzman said. "He had a wheelchair. So I would always come and help him. I knew he was coming. So I would help him open the door and everything."

Police said Romo shot his brother in the head and allegedly stabbed Chavez to death before heading to a nearby sports bar.

That's when investigators said Romo followed another man into the bar, but ended up attacking a woman inside who witnesses said was one of the bar's servers.

It's not clear if Romo has any sort of relationship with this woman he allegedly attacked inside the bar.

Police said Romo had a gun at the time.

Witnesses spoke with ABC7 about those frightening moments.

"I was there and I just covered myself and you know," a witness said. "On the floor like this. I was hoping for him not to come to me. And shoot me."

Police said they were already in the neighborhood at the time and responded to the bar where Romo was later arrested and a gun was recovered.

Fourteenth Ward Alderman Jeylu Gutierrez released a statement after the attacks, saying the violence stemmed from a personal dispute involving the two brothers and one of their wives.

Charges against Romo include two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated battery.

Robert Romo's court appearance Wednesday was delayed because he is in the hospital.
