Aon Center hosts annual Step Up for Kids stair climb
More than 3,000 athletes, patients, families and friends are climbing 80 floors as part of the 18th Annual Aon Step Up for Kids stair climb.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Eighty floors, 1,643 steps - this is no small feat to climb on a Sunday morning. But more than 3,000 athletes, patients, families and friends are doing just that at the 18th Annual Aon Step Up for Kids stair climb. The race to the top of the Aon Center benefits the children and families served by Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. All proceeds from the stair climb support K.I.D.S.S. for Kids, an affiliated organization of the hospital that has made a $4 million commitment to the hospital's Family Services department.

ABC7 is a media sponsor of the stair climb, and Eyewitness News reporter John Garcia was part of the race once again. During our news Sunday morning, John joined us live from the top of the Aon Center with some special climbers: 15-year-old Rebecca Ackerman, 2015 Step Up for Kids Patient Champion and a sophomore at Vernon Hills High School, and Rob Feldgreber, founding board member and past president of K.I.D.D.S. for Kids.

Fun fact: Rebecca Ackerman got to meet singer Taylor Swift. She was part of Swift's secret fan sessions.

If you couldn't come to the stair climb, you can still support Step Up for a month after the event through online donations here.
