A rip current proved to be too strong for a 25-year-old Palos Hills man who went swimming this weekend in Michigan.

He drowned Sunday while swimming with a friend in New Buffalo. Police say Wojciech Sadowski went under around 5 p.m. His body was recovered about an hour later.

A second person was found clinging to a buoy. Rescue crews were able to bring him safely to shore. He was not seriously hurt.

Authorities say rip tides in the area were between 6 and 8 feet high.
