Garage catches fire in Aurora

AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- A garage went up in flames in west suburban Aurora.

Firefighters responded to a home on Breckenridge Drive near Cheshire Drive around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a call from the homeowner.

When they arrived, the garage was fully engulfed. Six fire companies worked to stop the flames from spreading to the rest of the house. Heavy smoke billowed out of the structure and could be seen from miles away.

The fire was extinguished by 7:05 a.m. There were no reports of injuries.

Fire officials said the home is uninhabitable. The residents are staying with relatives.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
