Tow truck driver fatally shot at South Side auto shop
Reginald Jones, a tow truck driver fatally shot at a South Side tire shop, is being remembered as a devoted father of three.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A tow truck driver and father of three is being mourned a day after he was gunned down at the South Side auto shop where he worked.

Reginald Jones, 33, is described by relatives as a devoted farther three who worked hard, and Thursday night his family is mourning his loss.

Relatives of Jones were too distraught to speak on camera but said he was not the type to make enemies. Police Thursday night are not offering a motive for the shooting.

The self-employed tow truck driver was apparently on the job Wednesday afternoon, meeting a customer who needed tires at this auto repair shop, when police say Jones was shot and killed. An armed man approached him at the front of the store, shooting him several times.

Badly wounded, Jones reportedly sought cover in the store's office. The gunman, who wore a black ski mask, followed him and shot him several more times.

Workers at the shop rushed him to a hospital on the back of a flatbed truck, but it was too late.

Why Jones was targeted is a mystery to his relatives, who describe him as friendly, affectionate and the life of any party.

Before the shooting, Jones had planned to spend New Year's Eve with his loved-ones, including his 14-year-old daughter and two sons, ages 6 and 7. His large, close family is left with struggling to make sense of his death.

The auto repair shop is closed Thursday for the holiday. There are surveillance cameras on the property, but it's unclear what, if anything, they captured.
