Chicago River bridge lifts begin today

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A sure sign that spring is here: the Chicago River bridge lifts begin this morning.

Twenty-seven bridges from Ashland Avenue to Lake Shore Drive will open for eight to 12 minutes Saturday, allowing boats to move from storage yards into Lake Michigan marinas.

The bridge lifts will happen every Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. through June 29.
