3 shot on River North sidewalk: Chicago police
Chicago police said three people were wounded in a shooting in River North near State and Hubbard streets.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Three people were shot in River North on Sunday morning, Chicago police said.

Police said three men, ages 22, 26 and 32, were standing in the first block of West Hubbard Street when they were shot as two vehicles were exchanging gunfire.

Two victims, 22 and 26, were shot multiple times and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The 32-year-old victim was shot twice in the left arm and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Police said the victims were not the intended targets of the shooting. They were simply standing on the sidewalk when they were caught in the crossfire.

This is an area with a lot of foot traffic, and it was the same overnight. ABC7 spoke with a man who returned to work on Sunday morning with bullet holes through the storefront.

"And, they put a bullet hole right here," said Angelo Betts. "You have to be careful out here. Bullets don't have no names. They can just hit anybody."

Joseph Tseytlin lives nearby.

It's scary, scary stuff. Knowing that it was like random people, I mean, it's terrible to hear," Tseytlin said. "There's absolutely no excuse for any of this. These people need to be found, and sent to jail."

There's no word on a motive behind the shooting, and police haven't given a description of the vehicles they're looking for.

State and Hubbard streets were closed as police investigated and have since reopened.

Area Three detectives are investigating and no one is in custody.
