CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two inmates at the Cook County Jail were sent to the hospital early Wednesday after a small fire in a maximum security division, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities said an inmate in Division 9 threw a pile of torn sheets and paper out of his cell and set it on fire overnight. After correctional officers extinguished the flames, they went into the cell and found the detainees appeared to have been in a fight.
One inmate had a stab wound, which did not appear to be life-threatening. The other inmate had injuries to his face. They were both taken to the hospital to get checked out.
The sheriff's office said a lighter was found on one of the inmates.
No one else was hurt in this incident. An investigation is underway.
