GILMAN, Ill. (WLS) -- A Morton Grove man, who had reportedly just dropped off his son at the University of Illinois, was killed in a chain-reaction crash on I-57 in Iroquois County.

The Daily Journal reports Shuwei Chen, 52, was driving back from Champaign when he died.

Illinois State Police said four vehicles were involved in a crash on northbound I-57 at milepost 283 just after 4:45 p.m. Saturday.

Chen was driving a tan 2007 Toyota. His vehicle, a 2015 black Dodge and a 2014 red Dodge were slowed for traffic.

A 38-year-old man from Champaign was driving a 2015 black Chevrolet. State police said he was distracted by something inside his vehicle and rear-ended Chen's Toyota.

The Toyota was pushed into the red Dodge, which then struck the black Dodge.

Chen was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iroquois County coroner. The other three drivers were hospitalized with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
