CHICAGO (WLS) -- The CTA Second Chance Program will offer diesel mechanic training to participants starting next month, city officials said.

The program helps ex-offenders, victims of abuse and other adults who may have a hard time re-entering the workforce learn career skills and find full-time jobs.

The city said the skills taught in the diesel mechanic training course will be in high demand in Chicago over the next 10 years.

Second Chance is one of the largest programs of its kind in the U.S.

Each year, up to 265 participants can apply for a job at the CTA, detailing and cleaning more than 1,200 rail cars and 1,800 buses. These workers also maintain CTA station platforms and bus and rail yards.
