Police release dashcam video of chase, fatal crash

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police released dashcam video of a July police chase that ended in a deadly crash into a home in the city's West Pullman neighborhood.

Two people were killed and six injured in the crash, including four police officers.

Police said the pursuit began in southwest suburban Tinley Park after a strong-arm robbery. Illinois State Police continued the chase north on the Dan Ryan Expressway as officers pursued four suspects.

Chicago police officers from the 5th District were trying to intercept the chase when a police SUV and the suspects' vehicle collided and a gold Pontiac crashed into the side of a home.

The chase lasted about 15 miles. In the video, officers involved in the collision can be seen stumbling out of their car and falling to the ground, in need of medical attention. In the meantime, other officers arrest and handcuff at least one of the suspects at the scene.

Two suspects were killed in the crash. The four injured officers were able to recover from their injuries.

The video dramatically illustrates the dangers officers can face while pursuing suspects.

Michael Wells was inside his home when the car came crashing into the wheelchair ramp leading to his front door.

"I heard a big banging sound like a... I thought we were being attacked. I didn't realize it was a car," Wells said. "The police were hollering, 'Come out! Come out! Come out!' They were screaming."
