Two gang members sentenced in 2010 Alan Oliva murder

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Gary Sams and Pablo Colon were sentenced Friday, Nov. 20, in the 2010 murder of 19-year-old Alan Oliva.

Sams was sentenced to 30 years in state prison, with a credit of just over three years. Colon was sentenced to 40 years, with a credit of just over three years. Colon is motioning the judge to reconsider his sentence and is due back in court on Nov. 30.

Prosecutors say that in 2010 Oliva was ambushed by the defendants in the McKinley Park neighborhood, beaten and stabbed to death after being mistaken for a rival gang member. Sams and Colon were found guilty by jury in August. Co-defendants Marco Ramirez and Daniel Guerro are awaiting trial.
