CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Holy Name Cathedral door is now sealed shut for the next six months.
On Friday, Archbishop Blase Cupich blessed and locked the cathedral's N. State Street door to prepare for a special upcoming jubilee year called the Holy Year of Mercy.
The door in Chicago and others at similar cathedrals around the world will be unlocked in December after Pope Francis unseals a special door at St. Peter's Basilica that's been bricked up since 2000.
Roman Catholics believe opening the door is symbolic of mercy and an outreach to those who have left the church.
