CHICAGO (WLS) -- Joseph Karriem, 17, got to fly with an aviation legend on a Team Oracle plane; for this young flying enthusiast, it was the perfect way to celebrate the Chicago Air and Water Show.
First you get a little instruction, and then you get dressed. A parachute will do just fine.
"He danced in the sky. I taught him to roll it. I taught him to loop it. I taught him to hammerhead it. I showed him a whole new world of aviation and he's going to take that and he'd going to share it with the youth of Chicago," said Sean Tucker, acrobatic pilot.
Karriem earned his pilot's license last week; on Thursday, he got the opportunity of a lifetime.
"The first thing we did was we went upside down and that was the best part. When we were flying upside down I felt like I was hanging off of the airplane," Karriem said.
Karriem's mother says he has had his mind set on flying since he was ten years old and has never wavered.
"He's always known that he's wanted to be a pilot from that day until now and he's studied on his own reading books, reading manuals. I know that his destiny is to become a pilot. I'm just supporting it," said Rosalind Cobbs, Karriem's mother.
Karriem has been sponsored by the Tuskegee Airman Chicago chapter for aviation camp for the past four years. Next, perhaps he will conquer the road.
"I haven't even taken driver's ed yet. I'm not even worried about driving. I think driving is a little bit boring now," Karriem said.
