CHICAGO (WLS) -- Kmart is beating out most retailers by opening their doors at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Kmart has stayed open on Thanksgiving for the past 23 years, but received significant criticism for the practice in 2013 for not letting employees go home for dinner with their families.

Kmart will be open this year for 42 hours straight, opening at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving and closing at midnight on Black Friday.
