Updates on results for Illinois primary Election Day 2026, candidates as voting closes

A Lake Barrington early voting site is temporarily closed due to a potential gas leak.

The Lake County Clerk's Office announced that the Lake Barrington Village Hall early voting location is currently closed due to a reported gas leak in the building.

The closure is being implemented out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of voters, election judges and staff, while awaiting the all clear from Nicor Gas, officials said.

Nicor Gas is en route.

Voters who planned to vote early at the Lake Barrington Village Hall location Monday can cast their ballots at other early voting sites with extended hours in Lake County.

With early voting set to close Monday evening, more than 108,000 suburban Cook County residents have already cast a ballot in-person for the gubernatorial race, breaking the previous 2018 early voting record, the Cook County Clerk's Office said.

Combined with 58,982 vote-by-mail ballots already returned and 108,018 early votes cast, a total of 167,000 pre-election ballots have been cast as of noon Monday.

In 2022, there were 77,039 early votes and in 2018 there were 107,608 early votes.

The Illinois primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
