Don Tracy, the former chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, has won the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate.
Tracy was the state party chairman from 2021 to 2024.
Illinois last had a Republican in the Senate a decade ago, when Mark Kirk was defeated by Democrat Tammy Duckworth.

Niki Conforti is projected to win the Republican nomination for Illinois' 6th Congressional District.
Donna Miller is projected to win the Democratic nomination for Illinois' 2nd Congressional District, the seat vacated by Rep. Robin Kelly.
Jesse Jackson Jr. was also running for the seat. He was projected in second place in the race as of 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
