Cleanup begins at a muddy Grant Park as Lollapalooza wraps up

Some friendly matches of mud wrestling at Lollapalooza Chicago went viral on social media.

Fans decided to make the best of their festival experience and mud wrestle.

The festivalgoers said they weren't going to let the rain stop them from having fun.

Cleanup efforts began Monday morning at Grant Park just hours after Lollapalooza 2026 wrapped up.

Road closures surrounding Grant Park will continue until next week.

Another four days of Lollapalooza have come and gone. Lollapalooza is now wrapping up in Grant Park as massive crowds flooded downtown through all sorts of weather conditions.

It was maybe a little messier than previous years with rain falling over the last couple of days.

The rain held off on Sunday, but people told ABC7 that they were still stomping around in the mud as they headed to the exits with the festival coming to an end.

"I seen that it was kind of a mud fest out there, so we made sure we wore the shoes," said attendee Trissa Gibbons.

"I really know none of these artists in here, for the vibes," said attendee Vonzell.

Music lovers say it was a worthwhile but tiring weekend, taking in more than 170 performances with the final day of the festival headlined by Tate McRae, The Chainsmokers and The XX.

Rain also dampened some of the weekend, but Sunday stayed dry, though it was a little cooler outside.

And the grounds of Grant Park were certainly impacted by the storms, as people say it was full of mud in the festival.

"No rain, but it's muddy... What is it, 'mudpalooza?'" Vonzell said.

"It was great, but it was very muddy. Very, kind of, sloshy. You know, after four days, terrain is going to be kind of messed up," said attendees Caleb and Drake.

Music lovers are taking over Grant Park for the final night of Lollapalooza 2026 on Sunday.

And the weather is much better for performers and fans compared to Saturday's wet weather.

But while the rain has held off on Sunday afternoon, conditions on the grounds in Grant Park are still impacted by storms that have rolled through the area over the last couple of days.

But that, of course, is not enough to slow down these massive crowds on the final day of the festival.

Many people told ABC7 that they are excited to see pop star Tate McRae with more than 170 other performances rocking the stages on Sunday.

People are making sure they are prepared just in case any more rain comes through, bringing out the ponchos and rocking boots or shoes with the expectation that it is quite muddy in there.

As another Lollapalooza winds down, it is as busy as you would expect downtown for the final day.
