Man fatally shot in Morgan Park

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 51-year-old man was fatally shot near his home in Chicago's Morgan Park neighborhood overnight.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the victim as Paul King. His friends called him PK.

Police found King's body on the ground next to a gray car in the 1300-block of West 108th Place, near where he lived around 1:20 a.m. Thursday. He was pronounced dead at the scene with gunshot wounds to his chest and back.

The father of four lived with Keondra Lee and her family. She says they took King in when he fell on hard times. Family members and neighbors say King did whatever he could to support his kids.

"He is a good man always has been there to take care of kids, his kids' mother, everybody around the community loved him," Lee said.

King was a well-known barber in a neighborhood familiar with violence. In May, King's 7-year-old son, Elajah Dace, was shot in the shoulder one block from where his father was killed. A 16-year-old boy was charged in that case.

"We need justice because he's a good man. He never did nothing wrong to hurt nobody. If anything, he helping everybody," Lee said.

Neighbors say they never saw or heard the shooter.

"I heard like two shots and then three more. Then I looked out the window and couldn't see anything, cracked open door and see him lying in the street," said Sherman Booker, a neighbor.

No one is in custody in King's death.
