Chicago summer in full swing this weekend
Chicago's Pride Parade Sunday continues a weekend packed with summer events.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago's Pride Parade Sunday continues a weekend full of events on the city's North, West and South Sides that have the streets and neighborhoods packed.

Crowds are gathered along the parade's route, which begins at Montrose and Broadway in the city's Uptown neighborhood and ends at Diversey and Sheridan, winding through the city's Lakeview and Lincoln Park neighborhoods.

Train service on the CTA Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Brown and Orange lines was increased in anticipation of the large crowds, and some buses were re-routed due to the parade route.

Not even the rain could put a damper on the world's greatest block party Saturday. It was the 30th year Old St. Pat's Catholic Church has put on the west loop street festival. And Saturday night, on its second evening, five different bands took to the stage.

Downtown, Grant Park has been taken over by ITU's World Triathlon series. The race includes several Olympians and Olympic hopefuls for Rio 2016. Saturday's elite female winner was American Gwen Jorgensen, but the events kicked off with the elite paratriathletes, among them, several from Chicago-based Club Dare2tri, ach with their own amazing story.

"I wanted to compete internationally. I wanted to represent my country," said paratriathlete Israel Antonio. "Two years ago, ten years ago, it's not something I would have dreamt about, but as I stand here today, it's something that I really want to achieve."

The race continues Sunday, when more than 4,000 age group athletes from 49 states and 31 countries will join in, along with the elite men and the open paratriathlete category.

"It was really important to me to live the life that I wanted and I knew that amputating my leg would allow me to live that life and continue to do the things that I wanted to do," paratriathlete Joe Labrie said.

"Let's play two!" is the oft-repeated Ernie Banks refrain, but until Saturday double headers at Wrigley Field have mostly been a thing of the past. Saturday's back-to-back games were the first ones scheduled since 1983.
