LA PORTE, Ind. (WLS) -- The La Porte Police Department say officers responding to a 911 call about a suspicious package found three pipe bombs in a cardboard box.

Police dispatched to the 700-block of Philadelphia Street Tuesday morning say the box was the size of a large shoe box. The Porter County Bomb Squad and ATF responded to the scene and began evacuating both the block where the package was located and the block opposite. The bomb squad remains on the scene and the evacuation is still in place.

Nearby Hailmann Elementary School is keeping all students indoors as a precaution until the package can be removed.

Police say the bombs appear to be an isolated incident, and that they have conducted an extensive search in the area and have no found any more packages or suspicions items.

The evacuation area is not near any polling locations.
