Pedestrian fatally struck by SUV in Cedar Lake, Indiana

CEDAR LAKE, Ind. (WLS) -- A 59-year-old man from Cedar Lake, Indiana, was fatally struck by an SUV over the weekend.

Police responded to a report of a crash in the 12700-block of Wicker Avenue just before 7:20 p.m. Saturday. Investigators said Daniel Chapman, 59, was crossing Wicker Avenue when he was struck by a northbound black 1999 Chevrolet Blazer.

Witnesses told police Chapman crossed "all four lanes of traffic and right in front of" the SUV. They said the driver didn't have time to react.

Chapman was taken to St. Anthony Health in Crown Point, where he later died.

The 52-year-old driver from Highland, Indiana, was not hurt. But he was also taken to St. Anthony for a mandatory toxicology screening.
