ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (WLS) -- Donations are pouring in to help an 8-week-old cat that was thrown from a moving truck this week in New Mexico.
Doctors initially said "Sam" the kitten's leg would have to be amputated because surgery would be too expensive, but many residents in Albuquerque have pitched in to help, according to KOAT-TV.
Sam was thrown from a red pickup trick in Albuquerque's Los Lunas neighborhood and struck a brick wall, according to officials. Police are still trying to track down whoever threw the cat.
"It broke my heart," donor John Miles told KOAT. "We were put here to take care of God's creatures, and that was just not it, and I wanted to be able to help as best as I could."
