
KENOSHA COUNTY, Wisc. (WLS) -- An inmate was found dead Sunday morning at a jail in Wisconsin, officials said.
The incident happened around 8:12 a.m. in the medical ward dorm at the Kenosha County Jail, the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office.
First responders, including the Kenosha Fire Department, began life-saving measures, officials.
The inmate, a 49-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the jail. His name has not been released.
"On behalf of the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones," Sheriff David Zoerner said in a statement. "Any death in our custody is taken with the utmost seriousness. Our thoughts are with the family as they face this loss, and we remain committed to ensuring this incident is fully and independently investigated."
An outside agency, the Racine County Sheriff's Office, was called to the Kenosha County Jail to investigate, per protocol.
No further information about the inmate death was immediately available.
