CHICAGO (WLS) -- While reporting live, ABC7's Christian Piekos stopped mid-sentence to rush and help a cyclist hurt on the Lakefront Trail.
It happened during ABC7's 7 a.m. streaming newscast on Wednesday.
Piekos was reporting on the dangerous heat impacting Chicago when suddenly, he runs off.
A couple of minutes later, Piekos offered an explanation saying that he witnessed a cyclist and a runner collide.
"Big wipeout for the cyclist who went over his handlebars," Piekos explained. "His helmet actually broke, so we ran right over to make sure he was doing OK."
Piekos and photojournalist James McIntyre offered an aid kit, but the cyclist said he was okay.
"A scary situation. You got to be careful out here on the trail with so many people running and cycling at the same time," Piekos said.

After explaining the situation, Piekos got right back into reporting about the AccuWeather Alert.
