Man accused of killing wife in Chicago pleads guilty to contempt in MI

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago tax attorney Adam Beckerink pleaded guilty to another contempt of court charge in Michigan Monday.

The I-Team first reported on that charge last month after we obtained a police report about an incident this summer, when Beckerink was intoxicated at a court ordered drug test. For now, Beckerink will remain in a Berrien County, Michigan jail to continue serving his sentence for domestic violence charges. He faces extradition to Cook County on a Chicago police warrant for the murder of his 36-year-old wife, Caitlin Tracey.

Beckerink walked into court Monday morning after serving more than a month of his sentence for domestic violence and contempt of court charges. He pleaded no contest to abusing his late wife in Michigan.

Instead of a suit and styled hair, he was dressed in an olive-green jail jumpsuit for his hearing, along with a new haircut and glasses.

Berrien County Judge Gary Bruce asked Beckerink if he understood the charge. He answered, "Yes."

Beckerink pleaded guilty to a contempt of court charge the I-Team first reported on last month after an incident at a Concentra Urgent Care clinic in Chicago's West Town neighborhood.

CPD officers were called to the clinic on West Chicago Avenue after Beckerink was there for court ordered drug testing and showed clear signs of intoxication.

Judge Bruce asked him if he violated the conditions of his bond when he was intoxicated at the urgent care in Chicago. Beckerink answered, "Yes."

Also discussed at the hearing, Beckerink's extradition to Cook County on a Chicago police warrant for the murder of Tracey. She was found dead in October of last year at the bottom of the stairwell in his high-rise condo in the South Loop with her foot severed and her body pulverized.

Beckerink's Chicago attorneys were in Michigan to discuss extradition to Illinois. He is still considering his options and has not waived extradition but could at any time.

The court is still waiting for paperwork from Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, who is legally required to sign a warrant and send it to Michigan's governor to extradite Beckerink. The state is still waiting for paperwork from Cook County. If he waives extradition, the signed warrant from Pritzker is not necessary.

The I-Team reached out to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office about whether they are working to coordinate that governor's warrant. They said they had no comment.
