Armed thief shoots, robs woman on Belmont Cragin sidewalk: police

CHICAGO (WLS) -- An armed thief shot and robbed a woman on the city's Northwest Side on Monday night, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood's 5700-block of West Diversey Avenue just before 8 p.m.

An unknown offender approached a 28-year-old woman on the sidewalk, took out a gun, and demanded her belongings, police said.

Police said the suspect took the woman's property, hit her with a pistol and fired shots, striking her in the buttocks and ankle.

The victim was transported to Loyola Hospital in fair condition.

Area detectives are investigating. Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
