AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- A shootout between people in two cars left two juveniles hospitalized on Monday night, west suburban police said.
Aurora police responded to a report of a shooting near Douglas and Melrose avenues just before 9:15 p.m.
Police said there was an encounter between two vehicles, a red sedan and a dark-colored SUV, which were traveling southbound on Douglas Avenue.
The SUV pulled alongside the sedan, and someone inside the SUV fired multiple rounds, police said. The sedan's driver returned fire before both drivers sped away.
Two juvenile passengers in the sedan suffered gunshot wounds and were driven to a local hospital, police said.
One of the victims suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to another hospital, where they are in critical but stable condition, police said. The other victim suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
The victims' ages and genders were not immediately known. Police said two other people inside the sedan were not injured.
Police are searching for the SUV and the person who fired from inside it.
Aurora police are also investigating a separate shooting, which happened just after 6 p.m. Monday.
Officers were patrolling near Bonner Avenue and North Loucks Street when they heard gunfire, police said.
Police said those officers found fired cartridge casings in the road in front of a home in the 1100-block of Bonner Avenue. Gunfire hit that home multiple times, but the residents inside were not injured.
Police said both investigations are active and asked anyone with information to call them 630-256-5500.
