Dozens of chickens killed in McHenry County barn fire, officials say

MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- Fire crews in Harvard, Illinois responded early Saturday morning to a barn fully engulfed in flames.

It happened near the 4700 block of Lindwall Road, fire officials said.

The fire spread to two vehicles and began scorching a nearby home.

The barn collapsed as firefighters worked to put out hot spots for more than two hours.

The family escaped unharmed, but up to 60 chickens were believed to have died, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
