The Better Business Bureau warns scammers are placing fake QR codes over real ones on parking meters, public transit areas and even on mystery packages.

One quick scan could send you to a fake payment site designed to steal your credit card or personal information.

Check for signs a QR code has been taped over another one, and never scan codes from strangers, unexpected texts or emails.
