Charlie Kirk remembered at GOP midterm convention 1 year after shooting death
Thursday marks one year since conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at an outdoor speaking engagement at Utah Valley University. He was 31.
Tyler Robinson is accused of shooting kirk once in the neck as the ally of President Donald Trump spoke to a crowd of thousands in Orem, Utah.
Robinson, 23, turned himself in a day after the shooting. He has not yet entered a plea, and his lawyers have not offered alternative theories for Kirk's death.
He is waiting to stand trial.
Erika Kirk, the widow of Kirk, was named the new CEO and chair of the board for Turning Point USA days after he was killed.
Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, on what would have been his 32nd birthday.
On Wednesday, Republicans at the midterm convention broke out in chants of "Charlie, Charlie," in recognition of Kirk after Trump acknowledged it's been one year since the shooting.
"What shocked millions of Americans was not only the fact that Charlie was murdered, as bad as it was, but also how many people made an excuse for it or cheered for it," Trump said.
Trump also singled out Kirk's wife, Erika Kirk, who was seated at the convention next to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
