Driver killed while changing tire on WB I-80/94 in south suburbs, ISP says

LANSING, Ill. (WLS) -- A pedestrian was killed on I-80/94 in the south suburbs on Wednesday morning, according to Illinois State Police.

The crash happened at about 5:29 a.m. in the westbound lanes near Torrence Avenue, police said.

Police confirmed that one person died. ISP said initial reports indicate the person killed was struck while changing a tire.

The investigation caused a major traffic backup into the Indiana state line.
