GLENVIEW, Ill. (WLS) -- A 60-year-old Chicago cab driver has been charged after an incident in the north suburbs Monday that left 1 person seriously injured, Glenview police said Thursday.
Abderrezak Djerrah was charged with reckless driving in the incident.
Glenview police said Djerrah drove a cab to 3100 Sanders Road with a male passenger Monday afternoon.
Once they were parked, Djerrah and the passenger were involved in a physical altercation inside the vehicle over the fare, police said.
As the passenger attempted to get out of the car, Djerrah accelerated, causing the passenger to fall out, police said.
The passenger hit the ground and suffered severe injuries, police said.
He remains hospitalized.
Chopper 7 was over the scene about 2 p.m. Monday at the grounds of the old Allstate Insurance headquarters.
Crime scene tape and several emergency vehicles were visible.
Djerrah was taken into custody at Milwaukee Avenue, just south of Harts Road, later that day, Niles police said. Park Ridge police had spotted the suspect vehicle, after the incident.
Djerrah was processed and released with a court date of March 26 in Skokie.
