4-year-old girl dies after being hit by minivan in West Ridge, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A young girl was killed after being hit by a minivan Wednesday on the city's North Side.

The crash happened around 5:43 p.m. in the 6200-block North Talman Avenue in West Ridge, Chicago police said.

A 72-year-old driver in a minivan struck a pedestrian, a 4-year-old girl, who was crossing the street, police said.

The girl was taken to a hospital where she later died. She has been identified to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Juslene Akeza.

The driver was cited for due care to avoid a pedestrian and failure to reduce speed, CPD said.

No further information was immediately available as Chicago police continue to investigate.
