16-year-old charged in carjacking, fatal shooting of man on South Side, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A teen has been charged in a carjacking and fatal shooting of a man last week on the city's Far South Side.

The shooting happened around 2:09 a.m. July 31 in the 600 block of East 90th Street in Burnside, Chicago police said.

The victim, a 35-year-old man, was robbed by an armed offender who then shot him in the neck and stole his vehicle, police said.

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He has since died from his injuries, CPD said.

The suspect, a 16-year-old boy, was arrested Tuesday in the 13900 block of South Park Avenue, police said.

The teen has been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and vehicular hijacking, Chicago police said. He was not identified.

No further information was immediately available.
