2 children injured in hit-and-run in South Austin, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two children were injured in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday on the city's West Side.

The crash happened around 3:08 p.m. in the 300 block of South Central Avenue, Chicago police said.

Two victims, a 10-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, were attempting to cross the street at a crosswalk when they were hit by a silver Mitsubishi station wagon driving southbound on Central Avenue, police said.

The child both had minor lower-body injuries and were taken to a hospital in good condition, CPD said.

The driver of the silver Mitsubishi station wagon fled the scene, police said.

No further information was available as Chicago police continue to investigate.
