Pritzker seeks major disaster declaration from FEMA for August storms
Illinois' governor now asking for federal help in the cleanup from storms back in August.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Illinois' governor now asking for federal help in the cleanup from storms back in August.

Gov. JB Pritzker is officially asking for a presidential major disaster declaration from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the storms that hit eight Illinois counties, including Cook and Will.

If approved, people who qualify could get grants for housing and home repair plus access to low-cost loans.

Indiana has already received the same declaration for damage from those same storms.

Pritzker's request for FEMA Individual Assistance and Public Assistance covers the following affected counties:

  • Champaign (Aug. 13)

  • Cook, including the City of Chicago (Aug. 11)

  • Ford (Aug.14-15)

  • Fulton (Aug. 13-15)

  • McLean (Aug. 13)

  • Tazewell (Aug. 13-15)

  • Vermilion (August 13-15)

  • Will (Aug. 11)
